Attention! Disney announces end of Genie+ and creates new queue-skipping system at parks in Orlando

Disney never tires of bringing news and the “bomb” of the moment are the changes to the Genie+ and Lightning Lane services, Disney's queue-skipping system. The changes will come into effect from July 24th in the parks. Orlando.

There are several changes, starting with the names. The Genie+ will cease to exist and will be replaced by the Lightning Lane Multi Pass, while the Lightning Lane Individual (LLI) will be renamed the Lightning Lane Single Pass.

In addition to the new name, there will be many differences in the way the new system works and plans your visit to the park. The biggest change is that visitors will be able to book attractions up to seven days in advance before visiting the parks – currently, it is only possible to book Genie+ or LLI on the exact day you go to one of Disney's four theme parks in Orlando.

Lightning Lane Multi Pass

Genie+ came to replace Disney's old Fast Pass in 2021, the free 'skip the line' that reduced waiting times at the most popular theme park attractions. It must be booked in the “My Disney Experience” app only on the day of the visit, and prices vary depending on the season and also the park – it is more expensive at Magic Kingdom, for example.

Currently, you can purchase Genie+ from midnight on the day you visit the park, but the system is only available to schedule an attraction from 7 am onwards. And there's one detail: you can't schedule multiple attractions at once or at the time you want. See exactly how it works here.

Once the Lightning Lane Multi Pass starts operating in July, the way you book your appointment will be completely different. Visitors will be able to book up to three attractions in advance, but this time depends on another issue: Disney hotel guests can book up to 7 days before their stay, while other visitors can purchase the service and book 3 days before the start date of the valid ticket. It is also worth mentioning that the system only works in the United States, so there is no point buying the service and scheduling in another country.

The changes, however, do not stop there. Disney divided the attractions at Magic Kingdom, Epcot and Hollywood Studios into two groups. When booking, visitors can choose one toy from Group 1 (the most popular attractions) and two others from Group 2. At Animal Kingdom there will be no divisions.

After going on one of these rides, the visitor can book another attraction again. And so on. Lightning Lane Multi Pass purchases are individual and must be made in the “My Disney Experience” app. Prices continue to vary depending on the date and theme park.

Lightning Lane Single Pass

The biggest change compared to the current LLI, in addition to the name (which will be called Lightning Lane Single Pass), is also how far in advance visitors can purchase the service (7 days in advance for Disney guests and 3 days in advance for other visitors ).

Other than that, the Lightning Lane Single Pass will work in the same way: it is for the most popular attractions in the parks, which are usually one or two rides in the theme parks. You must pay separately to book the attraction at the available time.

Currently the attractions that can be purchased at LLI (and should continue with the name change) are: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Tron Lightcycle/Run from Magic Kingdom, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind from Epcot, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance from Hollywood Studios and Avatar Flight of Passage from Animal Kingdom.

Are the changes good or bad?

Every time Disney changes a system, visitors are left wondering whether the changes are positive or negative.

At first, it seems that having more time to book an attraction could be a good thing, but those who will really benefit are Disney hotel guests, who will have more time to plan their day at the park and schedule in advance, having This gives you a much greater chance of not having to wait so long in queues for Disney's main attractions in Orlando. But, in practice, we will only know in a month what the experience will be like, which is very reminiscent of the old fast pass (but now charged separately).
