Where is Boa Vista – Roraima

Boa Vista is in the north of Brazil, very close to the Equator. The capital of Roraima borders Venezuela and Guyana. The destination is bypassed by the Rio Branco. Nearby tourist attractions include the Serra de Tepequém, 207 km from the capital, and Gran Sabana, in Venezuela, with many ecotourism attractions.

How to get to Boa Vista

You can disembark at Boa Vista International Airport, which has flights departing from several cities in Brazil, mainly Manaus, Belém, Brasília and Recife. Traveling by car or bus is not recommended, as Boa Vista is far from other destinations. For example, the nearest capital is Manaus, 745 km away.

Once in the city, use public transport or rent a car to get around. There are almost no cars per app in Boa Vista and walking can be tiring, especially due to the heat.

History of Boa Vista

The city began to develop in the 19th century, well after other destinations in the north and northeast. At the time, Captain Inácio Lopes de Magalhães decided to transform his farm, called Boa Vista do Rio Branco, into the region’s headquarters. Thus, a village began to form, with mining as one of the main economic activities. In 1944, the municipality became the capital of the Federal Territory of Rio Branco. Only in 1988 was the region elevated to the State of Roraima, and Boa Vista gained the title of capital.

What to do in Boa Vista

1. Orla Taumanan

The center of Boa Vista is surrounded by the Rio Branco. On the waterfront, there is a leisure space with a food court, an area for events and an environment for practicing physical activities. Visit the place at dusk, as the sunset is a spectacle, as is the view of São Sebastião Island and the Macuxis Bridge. Nearby is Parque do Rio Branco, a complex with a gazebo, sports court, water mirror and children’s playground.

2. Edileuza Lóz Viewpoint

The highest point in Boa Vista allows you to see the city in 360°. The Mirante is close to Parque do Rio Branco and access is free, but you need to schedule an appointment at official site. Public service runs from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm and from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The stay at the top is 20 minutes. If it is raining a lot, visits are suspended. There are elevators to access the viewpoint.

3. Selvinha Amazônica in Praça Rio Branco

Selvinha Amazônica is a city hall project that brings giant animal toys to the squares of Boa Vista. The main space is in Praça Rio Branco, with more than 160 elements, including an aquatic environment. The Nova Cidade neighborhood also has a fun playground.

4. Craft Center

A simple attraction to go to after lunch. The Craft Center is a small house close to the waterfront. There, you will find handicrafts that tell a little about the history of Boa Vista. Opening hours are from 8am to 6pm.

5. Igreja Matriz Nossa Senhora do Carmo

The first church built in the Rio Branco Basin is a historic heritage site in Boa Vista. From 2005 to 2007, it was restored, however it preserved the Germanic characteristics of the 1920s. During the restoration, the original paintings on the walls were discovered. Pay a visit and take lots of photos!

6. Water Square

Praça das Águas is a great space for a night stroll in Boa Vista. Take a leisurely walk and make sure you click on the “I Love Boa Vista” tourist sign. In addition, there is the Millennium Portal, a frame that also yields great records. Bicycles, roller skates or skateboards are not permitted.

7. EcoPark Roraima

Take the road for 35 km and reach the EcoPark, an entertainment complex. The small beach with an artificial lagoon is the meeting point. There are also swimming pools, water slides and a restaurant that serves à la carte or buffet dishes, the latter option only at lunch. There are chalets for those who prefer to stay.

A water park located 40 km from Boa Vista with artificial lagoons, swimming pools and a wet bar. Tickets are affordable, with a discount for children. You can buy yours at official site. There is an inn for those who want to stay there.

The restaurants in Boa Vista are ideal for tasting flavors of northern culture, a mix of indigenous and Amazonian seasonings. 10. Robertinho Lagoon

  • Tourism in Bela Vista is still very new, so the best areas to stay are between the civic center and the waterfront. It is worth noting that the Professora Araceli Souto Maior neighborhood is considered the most dangerous for visitors, so avoid hotels in this region.
