Hotel in Kyoto: Mercure Kyoto Station review
We stayed for 3 nights at this hotel in Kyoto and took the opportunity to see all the attractions such as temples, restaurants and guided tours.
Location
As its name suggests, the Mercure Kyoto Station It is close to Kyoto JR Central Station, just a 10-minute walk. The area around the hotel is full of restaurants frequented by locals and at the same time is a very peaceful place. It’s a great accommodation in Kyoto, as it manages to stay in a very central location.
To get around the city, you can use the bus or go to the station to catch the train. We walked to the center and also visited the Hoganji temples, both located very close to the hotel.
In the video below I show you more about the hotel, including a tour of the room and breakfast, as well as tips on what to do in Kyoto! Click to watch!
Hotel Structure
The reception is next to the lobby, where there are several armchairs, computers, the restaurant entrance and the staircase where it connects an even larger area with tables and chairs.
This entire area is interesting because of the decoration that, despite being innovative, is closely linked to the history of Kyoto. One of the employees explained to us that the details are based on the history of Kyoto, such as the panels on the ceiling that resemble paper and origami and the circles on the back wall refer to abacuses.
I also loved the fabrics and colors that decorate the area next to the elevators, both inspired by the kimono bands and traditional colors of the area.
Going down the beautiful staircase, you arrive in a large room with many individual tables, sofas, bookshelves and also tables for groups but in the Japanese style. Here is a great place to work or relax.
Check-in from 2:00 pm – Check-out until 11:00 am
Hotel service
I really liked the service at Mercure Kyoto Station, the staff were very kind and helpful with information and great communication in English. They called a taxi and clarified doubts about the courier service for transporting bags between cities.
It is also possible to store your bags before or after check-in/out.
Superior King Room
One thing you will notice when traveling to Japan is that the hotel rooms are quite small! But this is not the case with the Mercure Kyoto Station. In this hotel in Kyoto there is plenty of space for your suitcases, there is a sofa, a shirt closet and a stool to place your shoes on.
The bed is super spacious and very soft, I slept really well without the risk of having the blanket stolen by my husband lol. Furthermore, I really liked the decoration that mixes an oriental and contemporary feel and also the different lights that help create a cozy atmosphere.
As we went during the summer, the days are shorter and the sunrises are super early. But that wasn’t a problem because no light came in due to the blackout on the window that covered any type of crack.
You can also turn on the TV to watch a movie, make tea or coffee and wear some nice pajamas offered by this hotel in Kyoto. There are sockets next to the bedside table, remember that the voltage in Japan is 110v and the socket is two parallel lines.
This Kyoto hotel also offers twin and single rooms.
Bathroom and shower
And to make everything even better: the bathroom toilet is technological! If you don’t know what that means, it is a vessel equipped with a system with different functions with buttons that:
- they throw water in certain places to help with cleaning,
- types of water pressure and jet location,
- make noise for privacy (in case of number 2),
- give light or strong discharge.
It’s a different experience that will change your life lol Everyone would like to have one like this at home!
In the bathroom you will also find some free personal hygiene items such as cotton swabs, soap, toothbrush and toothpaste, razor, comb, shampoo, conditioner, liquid bath soap and moisturizer. Jean loved the shampoo, it left his hair very soft and smelling good.
The shower is separate from the sink and toilet area, in a room with a glass door. I had one of the best showers of my trip to Japan here! The water temperature and pressure is very good, it was great to relax after a day of walking back and forth. There’s enough leg to walk so much in Kyoto!
Breakfast
One of the best things during a trip is to have a delicious and hearty breakfast, right! At this hotel in Kyoto you will find a mix of Western and Eastern options and the menu changes a little every day.
On the buffet table we find:
- bacon or sausage
- omelet
- French fries
- french toast
- curry
- various types of bread
- regular and chocolate croissant
- lots of fruits
- cereals and dried fruits
- yogurt
The Japanese are also used to eating salad in the morning, so there are a lot of vegetables, leaves, tomatoes, cucumbers, corn, carrots… They also eat rice, fish, tofu, miso soup and other little things to accompany the rice that I have no idea what the name is ( seaweed, chives, roe and many options)! The Japanese breakfast menu is extensive.!
To drink there was coffee, yogurt and juices and I also saw a table with just cereals, dried fruits and granola.
The hotel’s breakfast is served in the restaurant space called Trattoria M Kyoto, a well-decorated place with plants everywhere, paintings and cozy lighting. You can reserve a table for dinner at this restaurant and the dishes are Italian and à la carte.
Final evaluation
We really liked the service at this hotel in Kyoto and we felt at ease, relaxed and rested. Not to mention that we started every day really well with the hotel’s breakfast, simply delicious! Nothing better than exploring the city with a full belly, right!
We really liked the location close to the train station, the hotel bed and the space in the room. We recommend this hotel in Kyoto for couples and families!
We will definitely be back! >> Make your reservation at Mercure Kyoto Station
