What is carry-on luggage?

Hand luggage is one that you do not need to check in at check-in and can take with you onto the plane without paying anything, regardless of the fare purchased. It must be placed in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you, as per the airline's instructions during boarding.

Hand luggage on domestic flights

In 2019, national airlines standardized the rules and on all Azul, Gol and Latam flights you can take:

  • A suitcase with the following maximum measurements: 35 x 25 x 55 cm (length x width x height), including handles, pockets and wheels, and with a maximum of 10kg.
  • A personal item, such as a bag or backpack, with the following maximum measurements: 35 x 20 x 45 cm (measurements stipulated by Azul and Latam; Gol does not specify measurements);

It is allowed to take food on the plane, preferably in your hand luggage. However, on international flights, pay attention to the restrictions of the country you are arriving in. Yes, always in the original packaging of the medication. Passengers who use continuous or controlled medication (insulin, for example) can travel without any worries, as long as they take some preventive measures.

Although it is not mandatory, when traveling within Brazil it is recommended to carry a medical prescription registered in the traveler's name, listing the type of medication being transported. Can I take my laptop on the plane?

Laptops and other electronic devices should always be carried in your carry-on luggage. Never check electronics in your checked luggage.

To find out if the company allows shipping, ask at check-in. The downside is having to wait for your bags on the conveyor belt when you arrive at your destination.

If the cabin is full of bags, can the airline check my carry-on baggage?

Yes, in some cases the airline may request that your hand luggage be checked in, free of charge. You will then remove it when leaving the plane upon arrival. Don't forget that bags are not placed on the conveyor belt with much care when arriving at your destination, so if you have something fragile in your hand luggage, talk to the airline attendant and explain that you prefer the bag to stay with you.
