Street in Rio de Janeiro is voted one of the coolest in the world

We know that Rio de Janeiro is still beautiful, but it seems that in addition to its beauty, the whole world has been looking at the wonderful city as a cool destination too. The street Arnaldo Quintela, in Botafogo, South Zone of Rio, was elected by magazine Time Out as the 8th coolest in the world!

The main factors analyzed by the magazine were the quantity q quality of bars and restaurants, and the low vehicle traffic – which makes the streets pleasant to spend long periods of time, according to the guide.

First place went to the High Street in Melbourne, in Australia; second to Hollywood Road, in Hong Kong and third, Leste Eleven, in Austin, Texas. Countries like Japan, SpainPortugal and Argentina also secured a place in the ranking, check out the list with the top 10:

Rua Arnaldo Quintela, in Botafogo

And it's no surprise that Arnaldo Quintela secured 8th place, the place is home to a ton of cool bars and restaurants and recently became one of the points favorites of Rio's bohemia. The region has more than 30 bars, which cater to all audiences, from samba lovers to those who enjoy good rock.

Over the last few years the street has established itself as a popular gastronomic center. Now, even moving around on the sidewalks is a difficult task, due to the number of people taking the opportunity to have a drink and snack there at night.

Some bars were installed in old mechanical workshops, for example. These have undergone renovations to ensure complete comfort, but without losing the original essence and charm. There are other favorites like Xepa and Treme Treme, ideal for enjoying a cold beer and a snack with friends.

If you enjoy a more sophisticated party, you can also enjoy a “tidier” restaurant with a good wine list. A great option is Sult, a delicious Italian restaurant – which, although less like a bar, doesn't abandon the relaxed atmosphere of “Rildy”. And of course the enemies of the end can stay there until late, there are some options to dance until dawn – if you like rock, Culto is a good option (you'll also enjoy great burgers there.)

As a good lover of Rio de Janeiro, especially the Botafogo neighborhood, I can easily say that this is one of the coolest itineraries in the city, especially if you enjoy drinking, eating well and meeting new people. A common practice among regulars in the region is to do a “barathon” – this is what the locals call a “bar crawl” – which is nothing more than trying a little bit of each bar. But it's worth remembering that there are many, so choosing a few so as not to lose your temper seems smart to me! LOL

Arnaldo Quintela Bars

Do you want a drink that pops in your mouth? Choose miss Dynamite of Bar Room. It contains gin, strawberry, Aperol, Lillet, white vermouth, sparkling wine and sugar that explodes in your mouth. This is a bar that usually plays Brazilian music – it's the right choice if it's your favorite rhythm! Already the Macuna plays hip-hop and electronic, while Mother Joan is a reference in samba. Check out some cool bar options on the eighth coolest street in the world below:

Shake shake

One of the most traditional rolés in the region is also a favorite among younger kids! The sidewalk and street full of people leave no doubt that this is the point to pay cheaper for cold beer. It is located at number 31 and is open from Sunday to Tuesday, from 5pm to 1am. Wednesday, from 5pm to 2am. and from Thursday to Saturday, from 5pm to 4am.

Xepa

Xepa shares the favorite position with Treme. There are beach chairs on the sidewalk and the theme is a street market, with crates made from tables – all cute. I also think his prices are very good! Classic drinks like Jorge Amado, Fitzgerald and Negroni currently cost R$29 and you can drink a bottled beer for less than R$15.

It's also worth trying the caipira cake, the crunchy tapioca cake and the classic oxtail cake. Xepa is located at number 87, and is open from Tuesday to Thursday, from 5pm to 1am. Friday, from 5pm to 2am. Saturday, from 12pm to 2am and Sunday, from 12pm to midnight. It gets crowded, so get there early.

Bar Room

The Quartinho is a more intimate option, perfect for a date! The drinks are different and the food is delicious – it’s worth trying the burrata and the mushroom cake. As I already said, it's worth trying Miss Dynamite, which has sugar that explodes in your mouth. The sound there is all crafted from Brazil and I love this bar so much precisely for that reason. There is a jazz night on Wednesdays, but you need to get there early because it gets busy. Thursday is a dance floor day with a DJ.

Lemô

Lemô is famous for its good, cheap drinks – can you believe you can find a drink for R$20 there? Furthermore, another thing that stands out in the house are the different sauces that usually accompany the dumplings – these can be rib with cheese, mushrooms or pumpkin with gorgonzola. There's also pizza there, I've never tried it, but it's well praised.

Ps: As a São Paulo native, I confess to being a little prejudiced against pizza in Rio de Janeiro, without wanting to cause a diplomatic conflict, but already causing it! lol Sorry guys, you win in a lot of things, but in the pizza and subway categories we win! haha

Lemô is at number 57 and is open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 5pm to 1am. Friday, from 5pm to 2am. Saturday, from 12pm to 2am and Sunday, from 12pm to midnight.

Iron and Flour

And so as not to call me unfair, it is necessary to recognize that the pizza at Ferro e Farinha is very good and worth a visit, especially the Botafogo unit – which has a terrace perfect for a date or a night out with friends.

The charming atmosphere draws attention, but what makes this corner of Arnaldo Quintela stand out are the flavors – twice awarded by Veja Rio, the pizza is created by a New York chef called Sei Shiroma. It is located at number 23 and is open from Sunday to Thursday, from 6pm to midnight and Friday and Saturday, from 6pm to 1am.

Calm

Calma is the bar chosen by a more alternative and younger crowd. The place is small, but there are tables on the sidewalk too. The colorful lights give it a special charm and the focus of the place is the drinks – for food you will only find chips and other bar snacks. Calma is at number 51 and opens from Tuesday to Sunday, from 6pm and usually stays until 2am or so.

Mother Joan

And you can't talk about Rio de Janeiro without talking about samba, right? If you, like me, are passionate about the happiest musical genre of all (and only my opinion matters, lol) You will love this bar! It is very reminiscent of the bars in Lapa, less Instagrammable and more “rootsy.”

And don’t be alarmed, in addition to being a bar, the space houses a barbershop, a tattoo studio, a restaurant and a karaoke – the real “Mother Joana’s house”, lol. The rice cake is a must-order and the signature drinks are also delicious! It is at number 14 A on Rua Rodrigo de Brito, a side street from Quintela, and is open on Tuesdays, from 12pm to 1am. Wednesday to Saturday from 12pm to 2am and Sunday from 5pm to 1am.

Chanchada

Chanchada is a gourmet version of that little bar in your neighborhood, you know, lol? The counter and shelves full of drinks will remind you of that, but the reality is that it's all just thought out. Led by chef Bruno Katz, the lean menu features reinterpretations of bar classics, such as moelinha, grilled okra, pork rinds, dumplings and pastries.

The house beats are a highlight and the drinks? The drinks are those from the bar on the corner, lol – cocktail, firecracker and delicious caipirinhas. Chanchada is located at General Polidoro, 164 – continuation of Quintela – and is open from Tuesday to Saturday, from 12pm to 1am and Sunday, from 12pm to 10pm.
